Vendor questions
Is Claude FedRAMP authorized? Can DoD contractors use it?
Short answer
Some versions are. Of the 6 ways to use Claude we track, 3 are FedRAMP authorized (Claude for Government: High; Claude in Amazon Bedrock (AWS GovCloud): High; Claude on Vertex AI with Assured Workloads: High), 2 are in process (Claude Code with a commercial Claude plan and Claude Enterprise (claude.ai)) and 1 is not authorized (Claude API (direct from Anthropic, incl. Claude Platform on AWS)).
For CUI, the ones with a "Yes, with conditions" answer are Claude for Government, Claude in Amazon Bedrock (AWS GovCloud) and Claude on Vertex AI with Assured Workloads.
Defense contractors have an extra question. In 2026 the Department of War took two separate supply chain actions against Anthropic over the use of Claude in DoW contracts and subcontracts.

Court rulings since then point in different directions. On August 27, 2026 the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California vacated the Department's "supply chain risk" designation of Anthropic under 10 U.S.C. § 3252 (order of final relief). On September 25, 2026 the D.C. Circuit denied Anthropic's petitions for review of a separate supply chain exclusion issued under the Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act, 41 U.S.C. § 4713 (opinion). If you hold DoW contracts, ask your contracting officer how this applies to you before using any version of Claude on contract work.
